Binga Basket (set of 7)

Binga Basket (set of 7)

Wall decor set of Binga Baskets hand-woven by artisans in Zimbabwe.

--

Binga Baskets, named for the region of Zimbabwe where they originate from, are woven by local women utilizing wild grass, reeds, and Ilala palm fronds. The patterns are created by interweaving materials dyed naturally, using the roots and barks of native trees. Binga baskets are woven using the over and under style of ‘simple’ weaving in a circular pattern. A 16-inch diameter basket can take around 3 days to complete. The baskets are finished using a coiled rim with a distinctive herringbone pattern.

The largest sized bowls are still used by the baTonga people for their original purpose of winnowing grains.
